ARCS Minnesota Scholar Awards
This year, we are proud to recognize seven outstanding graduate students from the University of Minnesota who are making significant contributions in STEM fields.
Minnesota ARCS Scholars:
- Makaha Harmon – Biomedical Engineering
- Ash Milton – Computer Science
- Nicole Quintis – Neuroscience
- Caleb Kim – Immunology
Danaher Foundation ARCS Scholars:
- Cara-lin Lonetree – Immunology
- Louise Pitcher – Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics
- Phoebe Keyes – Civil & Environmental Engineering
ARCS Minnesota Scientist of the Year Award
We are excited to honor Caroline Ylitalo, PhD, as the 2024 ARCS Minnesota Scientist of the Year. Caroline had a distinguished career as a senior scientist at 3M. A prolific inventor with over 100 issued and pending patents, Caroline is an expert in respiratory protection for healthcare workers. Her collaboration with the CDC and FDA during the pandemic has been invaluable. Additionally, she is deeply committed to promoting science education among underrepresented students as a board member of the Twin Cities Regional Science Fair. Come hear her story.

The Cargill Building and parking are easily accessible on the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus.
Evening Schedule:
5:00 – 5:30 pm Registration
5:30 – 6:30 pm Scholar Round Tables
- Engage in casual discussions with our ARCS Minnesota Scholars in small groups.
- Enjoy a buffet and a selection of beverages.
6:30 – 7:30 pm Program
- ARCS Scientist of the Year – Caroline Ylitalo, PhD, 3M Senior Division Scientist (retired)
